Human isolation can be defined as minimal or no contact between a human being and society. Perhaps Akaky’s co-workers avoided including him in his social activities because of his position, because he did not have much money, or because he was wearing worn clothes. In other words, People mistreated Akaky because they considered him insignificant. “It must be noticed that Akaky Akakyevich for the most part explained himself by apologies, vague phrases and particles which have absolutely no significance” (Gogol, 462). The fact that he expresses himself in words that seem to have no meaning denotes that Akaky had locked himself in a world that only exists in his head or that the ideas in his head are scattered. Not having contact with the society in which he lived made Akaky forget how to communicate, which kept him isolated from the rest of the world.
